To Snack…Or Not To Snack?
Bring The Snacks. Trust Me.
Let’s talk about the real MVP of your family photoshoot.
Not the outfits.
Not the location.
Not even me (shocking, I know).
It’s the snacks.
If you take one piece of advice from me before your session, let it be this: never arrive with a hungry child and high expectations. That is a dangerous combo.
Hanger Is Real (And It’s Loud)
Children are tiny, beautiful humans with very big feelings. Add an empty stomach and suddenly we’re not capturing “relaxed family moments” — we’re documenting a hostage negotiation.
You know that look.
The glazed eyes.
The slow-motion landslide into emotional chaos.
Nine times out of ten? They just need food.
Why Snacks = Better Photos
When kids are fed:
• They can focus for more than 47 seconds.
• They’re more cooperative.
• Smiles come naturally (instead of through clenched teeth).
• Everyone’s stress levels drop approximately 83%.
A quick snack break can reset the entire vibe. And relaxed vibes? That’s where the real magic lives.
What To Bring (Strategically, Please)
We’re aiming for:
✔ Easy to eat
✔ Not messy
✔ Not neon-coloured
✔ Not chocolate (unless you enjoy evidence)
Think:
• Cut fruit (not watermelon unless you like sticky elbows)
• Crackers
• Muesli bars
• Little sandwich pieces
• Squeezy yoghurt
Avoid anything that stains, crumbles like a crime scene, or requires a full outfit change.
Timing Is Everything
A small snack right before we start works wonders.
A quiet top-up halfway through? Genius.
We’re not throwing a picnic — we’re maintaining morale.
The Big Picture
Family sessions aren’t about perfectly posed statues. They’re about connection. Laughter. Those messy, real-life moments.
And it’s significantly easier to capture genuine joy when no one is internally screaming about being starving.
So yes, of course coordinate the outfits. Brush the hair. Do the prep.
But above all things…
Bring ye thy snacks!
Future You (and your gallery) will thank you.
